Meet Carolyn Kepcher in the latest feature interview

January 6, 2010

stevie-awards-09_carolyn-kepcher-and-lisa-quastYou’re Fired!” – Ever watched The Apprentice on television?  Then you should check out the latest Career Woman feature article and meet Carolyn Kepcher.  Carolyn is the founder of Work Her Way and a high-profile businesswoman, often recognized for her role as an Executive Vice President with the Trump Organization.  She is known by millions for her role on NBC’s hit series, “The Apprentice.”  She’s a woman who’s used her fame to focus on helping women and for that, she was chosen as our first featured career woman interview for 2010.

What you might not know about Carolyn is she is also the author of a best-selling business book, “Carolyn 101,” which landed at No. 2 on the New York Times best-sellers list and offers business advice on everything from dealing with a difficult boss to balancing work and life.  In addition, Carolyn writes the weekly “Your Career” column for The New York Daily News, which addresses business, career, and balance.

While working for Donald Trump, Carolyn “learned that it is possible for a woman to survive and do well in a male-dominated culture.”  As you probably noticed while watching Carolyn on The Apprentice, she’s a straight-shooter who believes in honesty and respect for others.  Over time, she became tired of the rosy, positive spin people were putting on tough subjects in the media.  As Carolyn commented, “The sunshine-y themes of most mainstream media seemed to imply that all you need is ‘a makeover and a positive attitude!’ and success will come.”

Carolyn believes that success stories should be told, “but they have to portray the reality, which is that it takes an unbelievable amount of work to make things happen in your career these days.”  So, she created WorkHerWay.com as a way to provide “a place where working women can get answers to the many issues and dilemmas we are all facing today.”  On the website, her contributing experts are allowed to freely voice their opinions.  And as one of the contributing experts for her site, I greatly appreciate the freedom of expression we’re allowed and the ability to encourage different points of view.

But, Carolyn tells me that “first and foremost I am a mother to my son Connor and daughter Cassidy.”  She’s also an avid golfer and philanthropist, passionate about extending a hand to women just starting out in the working world. She’s even spearheaded several mentorship programs.  Now that’s something to cheer about as we ring in the New Year so be sure to read the feature article!
